Our season opens on October 24 with An Evening of Monteverdi featuring Il Combattimento di Tancredi et Clorinda and other works by Claudio Monteverdi, featuring, among other artists, the Opera Lafayette debut of three young luminaries of the early music scene – lutenist Thomas Dunford, harpsichordist Jean Rondeau, and mezzo-soprano Lea Désandre.

Our program pairs the American premiere of Alessandro Scarlatti’s last major secular vocal work with Francesco Geminiani’s most famous instrumental composition, performed in its original version as a ballet pantomime. The evening opens with Scarlatti’s Erminia, directed by Richard Gammon, and concludes with Geminiani’s Enchanted Forest, choreographed by the extraordinary Anuradha Nehru with Kalanidhi Dance.

 Our final program is a musical journey through the reigns of Louis XIV, XV, and XVI, featuring music from Lully’s Acis et Galatée to Grétry’s Richard, Cœur de Lion. Inspired by The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s exhibition Visitors to Versailles (1682 – 1789), this concert features the return other favorites, such as mezzo-soprano Anna Reinhold (Marcia in Catone in Utica), tenor Aaron Sheehan, and baritone Victor Sicard (Adario in Les Indes Galantes).

Opera-toberfest

Ring in October and our 2017-2018 season with beers, brats, and bravos. Guests will enjoy German and Austrian cuisine with a drink ticket and cash bar. Dirndls and lederhosen are optional, and you may hear some operatic drinking songs. We will also be selling tickets to An Evening of Monteverdi.
