Soprano Ah Young Hong has been praised by The New York Times for her “lovely voice with round, soft low notes and a sugar-sweet top,” and The Washington Post described her voice as “glistening and resilient.” Her extensive concert work has included performances with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Opera Lafayette, Concert Artists of Baltimore, the Magnolia Baroque Festival, and Harmonious Blacksmith, among others. In the summer of 2005, Ms. Hong made an American premiere recording of Johann Sebastian Bach’s newly discovered aria, “Alles mit Gott und nichts ohn’ ihn,” BWV 1127, for National Public Radio’s Performance Today with harpsichordist Joseph Gascho, director of Harmonious Blacksmith. This recording has been broadcast throughout the world. Hong’s roles with various companies in the United States and abroad have included Morgana in Handel’s Alcina, Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto, and Papagena in Die Zauberflöte. Ms. Hong can be heard in Opera Lafayette’s new recording of Rebel and Francœur’s Zélindor, roi des Sylphes. She received her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Peabody Conservatory of Music where she studied with Ruth Drucker and Mark Markham. She is currently a member of the voice faculty at the Peabody Conservatory and at Towson University.
