Anuradha Nehru is the Founder and Director of Kuchipudi Kalanidhi, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting Indian Dance. Trained in Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam, under Guru Vempati Chinnasatyam, Guru Krishna Kumar, Guru Meenakshi Balasundaram and Guru Pakiriswamy Pillai, Anuradha has established herself as a leading Kuchipudi exponent in India and the United States. She performed as the lead dancer in Guru Vempati Chinnasatyam‘s U.S. Tour of the 50 States in 1998. Anuradha has taught for over 20 years in the United States and produced many young classical dancers who are now dancing professionally in their own right. She toured South East Asia twice between 1999-2001 with her own orchestra.
She founded the Kalanidhi Dance Company in 2005 with her senior students. She took Kalanidhi Dance to India in Oct 2007 to participate alongside some of India’s best dance troupes in the Ananya festival — one of India’s most prestigious dance festivals. She has also produced, directed and performed in shows at several national venues in the United States. Her original production of Navarasa (The Nine Moods) premiered in Washington, DC in 2005, and she subsequently toured India with this production in 2007. Her other major productions which received critical acclaim include, ‘Transcending Traditions,’ ‘Yaatra,’ the historical ballet 'Bhagmati', (based on a true 15th-century story of love and intrigue in India), and Siva Shakti to name a few. Anuradha is a recipient of the Master/Apprentice grant from the Maryland State Arts Council, and “Teacher Recognition Certificate” from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts in appreciation for encouraging and supporting students who have been recognized for their exceptional artistic achievements. She has also been recognized by the Governor of Maryland for her dedicated service to the arts and has been supported by the Maryland State Arts Council. Anuradha is one of the founding members of the Indian Dance Educators’ Association (IDEA), a non-profit umbrella organization of Indian dance professionals established to serve classical dancers and dance lovers, and served as the organization’s Chairperson for two terms.
