With the French Revolution raging in the streets, how did the artistic milieu of Paris react? Opera Lafayette explores operas that held the stage in the 1790s and reflect the tumultuous emotions of the period. Opera and the French Revolution, a fully-staged program featuring The Opera Lafayette Orchestra and Chorus, sets three dramatic scenes from classical Greek tragedies: Sapho by Jean-Paul-Égide Martini (a modern premiere), Médée by Luigi Cherubini, and Œdipe à Colone by Antonio Sacchini.
