Opera Lafayette Season 2016-2017
In 1725 a group of Native Americans performed for King Louis XV, and inspired Rameau's Les Indes Galantes. Opera Lafayette presents orchestral and choral selections from the entire opera as well as the complete finale in which Zima, an American Indian chief's daughter, must choose among three lovers: one French, one Spanish, and one Native American. Set in the forests of North America, the fourth part features an imagined peace celebration between a Native American Nation and French and Spanish colonists.
