After receiving a degree in Dutch law, Dutch soprano Judith van Wanroij began singing lessons at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Margreet Honig. In February 2004, she obtained a Certificate with Distinction from the Advanced Opera Programme at De Nieuwe Opera Academie of Amsterdam and The Hague, and in 2003, she won the first prize in the prestigious oratorio competition ‘Erna Spoorenberg Vocalisten Presentatie’. Ms. van Wanroij has taken part in numerous concerts and oratorio performances in Europe, working with William Christie, Christophe Rousset, Jesus Lopez Cobos, Jérémie Rhorer, and others. She made her opera debut singing the title role in Offenbach’s La Périchole. Other appearances include the roles of Musetta in La Bohème, Karolina in Smetana’s Dvê Vdovy, Drusilla, Damigella and Virtu in Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea, Belinda in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Ilia in Mozart’s Idomeneo, and others. In 2005, Ms. van Wanroij was invited to take part in William Christie’s young artist program Le Jardin des Voix, which resulted in a highly successful tour of Europe and the United States with Les Arts Florissants. Future engagements include the soprano parts of Purcell’s King Arthur with Les Talens Lyriques, Junon in Rameau’s Platée with Opéra de Strasbourg, the title role in Grétry’s Andromaque with Schwetzinger Festspiele and Ilia in Idomeneo at De Nederlandse Opera.
