Our program pairs the American premiere of Alessandro Scarlatti’s last major secular vocal work with Francesco Geminiani’s most famous instrumental composition, performed in its original version as a ballet pantomime. The evening opens with Scarlatti’s Erminia, directed by Richard Gammon and featuring the return of three very special artists, soprano Julia Dawson (Emilia in 2014-2015’s Catone in Utica by Vivaldi) and bass-baritone André Courville (Dom Alvar in last season’s Les Indes Galantes by Rameau) as well as the debuts of mezzo-soprano Allegra De Vita and tenor Asitha Tennekoon. The program concludes with Geminiani’s Enchanted Forest, choreographed by the extraordinary Anuradha Nehru with Kalanidhi Dance.
