Born in Tours, France, Laetitia de Beck Spitzer Grimaldi spent her childhood in Portugal and England. She began her singing studies with a masterclass led by Teresa Berganza, Dalton Baldwin, and her current mentor and teacher, Lorraine Nubar. After completing her undergraduate studies at the Manhattan School of Music under Neil Rosenshein, she received her Master’s Degree from the prestigious Julliard School, where she studied with Mrs. Marlena Malas.
In 2011, Ms. de Beck Spitzer was awarded first prize in the Kate Neal Kinley Memorial Fellowship International Competition. She has participated in numerous masterclasses with some of the world’s leading artists, including Dame Emma Kirkby, Jakob Lindberg, Illeana Cotrubas, Alfred Brendel, Malcolm Martineau, Sir Thomas Allen, Masaaki Suzuki, Speranza Scappucci, and many more.
Ms. de Beck Spitzer has performed worldwide, including concerts in France, Germany, Portugal, Belgium, Switzerland, and the United States. In 2011, she gave the inaugural concert of the famous Leipzig New Wave Gothic Festival with pianist Carmen Stefanescu and was invited to perform many concerts that year in distinguished venues such as the Mendelssohn-Haus, under the patronage of Kurt Masur. Further appearances include touring with the renowned Spanish guitarist Pablo Sainz Villegas in concerts for the Walton Center, Artosphere Festival in Arkansas.
Ms. de Beck Spitzer has appeared in many operas, including performing the roles of Nancy in Britten’s Albert Herring under the baton of David Jackson in Tampa, Florida; Jenny in Britten’s The Beggar’s Opera at the Manhattan School of Music under the direction of Jorge Parodi, Dorothée in Massenet’s Cendrillon in Belgium under the direction of David Miller, First Clerk in the American Premiere of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies Kommilitonen! under the direction of Anne Manson. She recently performed the role of Lucilla in Rossini’s La scala di seta under the direction of Vlad Iftinka. In 2012 she was chosen to be a member of the Verbier Festival Academy and made her debut there in the role of Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro under the baton of Jayce Ogren.
Upcoming engagements including singing in Charpentier’s Acteon with Opera Lafayette in Washington, DC, in May 2013 and participating in the Ravinia Festival in Chicago in August 2013.
