ABOUT Young Artists Program
Opera Lafayette's Young Artists Program, established in 2007, presents opportunities for young singers interested in specializing in early opera. Over the course of an Opera Lafayette season, selected young singers work with leading artists in the early opera field, and may cover lead roles and perform small roles in the company’s three season productions. Additionally, these young artists represent Opera Lafayette throughout the metro areas of Washington, DC and New York City in community engagement programming, such as Opera Starts with Oh! Artists receive coachings with Artistic Director Ryan Brown, and other guest artists as appropriate.
Brown selects singers based in Washington, DC or New York City who are beginning a career that will involve early opera. Blending Opera Lafayette’s expertise and artistic goals and those of each selected artist, Opera Lafayette designs a unique program for each singer. From year to year and from artist to artist, each contract is unique. Opera Lafayette’s Young Artists have flexibility and a training plan that allows for external performing and training opportunities. Payment is based on per performances fees.
