We invite you to join us for what The Washington Post calls, “The best Zoom there is!” Opera Starts with Oh! Online is a series of livestreamed, educational lessons created by Opera Lafayette to introduce young audiences to the magic of opera!

This week will focus on conducting and will feature guest teaching artist, Jacob Ashworth. Ashworth is the “impressive Artistic Director” (NYTimes) of the baroque and modern ensemble Cantata Profana, and Co-Music Director of the “categorically imaginative and radical” (New Yorker) Heartbeat Opera. Jacob has gained a reputation from early baroque to contemporary music as a consummate stylist and curator of music, earning Cantata Profana the 2016 CMA/ASCAP National Award for Adventurous Programming with his vision for crafting theatrical, genre-bending chamber music shows. Equally at home on modern and period violin, as a conductor, and occasionally on renaissance vielle, Jacob has been called a “lithe and nimble” (NYTimes) baroque violinist, an “exacting and sensitive” (Boston Globe) new music player, a “richly detailed” (NYTimes) conductor, and “a flat-out triumph” on stage (Opera News). Learn more on his website.

All ages are welcomed at any time! We operate on a pay-what-you-can model to ensure equity in our programming.
