BECOME YOUR OWN COSTUME DESIGNER AS YOU CREATE OUTFITS INSPIRED FROM THE FAIRY QUEEN BY HENRY PURCELL!

Practice on these Fairy coloring sheets!  Let’s think about:

  • What colors will you use for your fairies?

  • Look at the different outfits on these fairies, which would you like to wear?

  • What designs, textures, or elements would you add to their costumes?

WANT TO DRESS LIKE CHARACTERS FROM THE FAIRY QUEEN?

Think outside of the box and use things you already have!

  • You can use anything you want to make your outfit!

  • What character from the story do you want to be?

    • Royalty, peasant, animal, etc…

    • Think about the colors they wear:

  • Do you have items at home in these colors?

    • It could be anything like: sheets, blankets, skirts, dresses, tights, colored pants, loose shirts, etc.

    • Details could be adding belts, ropes, necklaces, wands or anything else you can think of!

WANT TO MAKE A REAL CROWN YOU CAN WEAR?

Here are 2 different ways to build your own crown from materials you might already have at home!

Making your crown with paper or foam paper!

  1. Using paper, construction paper, foam paper, etc., trace out U-shapes at the top of your crown.

    • Make them as even as you can!

    • You can color your crown at this time to really make it our own!

2. Next take some scissors and carefully cut out those U-Shapes.

3. Lastly measure your paper around your head and tape it shut.  You can also hot glue it after you take it off to really keep to together!

  • You can also hot glue on decorations, like gems, sequins, puff balls, anything you’d like!

Making your crown with aluminum foil!

  1. Grab some aluminum foil and cut them into square-like sheets.

2. Next roll them up into long tubes

  • The number you need might vary per person.

3. Next, measure the tubes around your head to figure out the size for the base (or the part that sits on your head).

4. Lastly, bend the other tubes in half to make points and place them around the base of your crown.

  • You can wrapped the tube ends around the base and either tape or hot glue them to keep them stuck!

WANT TO MAKE A DONKEY MASK & TAIL?

Follow this tutorial to make them at home!

  1. You’ll need a paper plate, string/elastic, tape, glue (or hot glue), and construction paper.

2. On the back of the paper plate, you are going to draw where you want the eyes to be. And then cut off 1/3 of the bottom of the paper plate.

  • You can color your plate at this time.

  • What color will you make your donkey?

3. Lastly assemble and decorate!

  • You’ll take the piece of the plate you cut off and fold it down the center to help bend it.

  • Then tape/glue it back to the bigger piece of plate.

  • Lastly use your construction paper to make eyebrows, nostrils, and ears.

  • You can also add hair with string or pipe cleaners!

4. For you tail you will need string, yarn, rope, or anything similar.

  • Next, braid your string pieces together and knot it at both ends.

  • Be sure to leave some loose at the end for the end of the tail.

5. Lastly brush out the end of the tail and you’ve got a tail to go with your Donkey costume!

  • You can add extra string to the bottom to make it fuller too!

NOW YOU CAN USE YOUR DESIGNS AND CHARACTERS TO CREATE YOUR OWN STORY!

  • Imagine you have a dream about something magical happening.

  • What would you like to dream about? Draw a picture and write about it!

  • Share your drawings with us at OSWO!

    • Send then to jacechambers@operalafayette.org

    • And we might put them on our Social Media!
